What is Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica (SHH)?
We are an honorary society sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese (AATSP) formally organized in 1953 as the Spanish National Honor Society, and the name was changed in 1959. Our purpose is to recognize high achievement in Spanish by students of secondary schools and to promote a continuity of interest in Hispanic studies.
What about Bowie’s Chapter?
We were organized by Sra. Nancy Jackson in 1988, the first year the school opened, and we are called the Alfonsina Storni Chapter of Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica.
Who qualifies for Active Membership?

What are the dues?
The dues are $15, payable only once. On initiation, each member shall receive a Certificate of Membership.
When does SHH meet, and what do you do at meetings?
We will meet once a month, usually on a Wednesday, either before or after school. We have different cultural activities planned throughout the year, some to enrich our own school culture, as well as opportunities to engage in community events that highlight the Hispanic / Latino culture.
